Mawun Mud Village on Lombok Island is a living testament to sustainable architecture rooted in regional vernacular traditions. Led by associate Jennifer Newton, the project breathes new life into discarded materials — repurposed fishing boat timber forms key structural elements, flattened oil barrels waterproof thatched roofs, and coconut coirs bind bamboo with quiet ingenuity. Alang Alang grass roofs pay homage to time-honored local craftsmanship, while firewood railings and bamboo construction reinforce a deep commitment to natural, eco-friendly solutions. A restrained, neutral palette and thoughtfully placed design accents preserve the primitive yet timeless character of the space. Every repurposed element contributes to a warm tropical ambiance, inviting stillness and reflection. Here, simplicity is not a limitation but a philosophy — one where nature leads, architecture listens, and sustainability and beauty coexist in effortless harmony.
